Clockwork Labs was founded in 2019. The company has previously raised $4.3 million in August of 2021 from Supercell, CCP Games CEO Hilmar Petursson, and Unity co-founder David Helgason. The company headquarters are in San Francisco, but the studio operates remotely, with employees all over the world.
Clockwork Labs just announced on Twitter that they have raised an impressive $22 million in funds. Andreessen Horowitz led the round with participation from David Baszucki, Roblox founder and CEO, as a private investor. The funds will go towards developing Clockwork Labs’ community sandbox MMORPG, BitCraft, alongside a new unannounced database technology that powers the game.
BitCraft was revealed in September of last year. The game is described as a sandbox MMORPG that encourages many different play styles ranging from farming, hunting, and crafting to city-building and social strategy, rather than emphasizing combat alone. The game incorporates elements of sub-genres such as survival games, sandbox games, role-playing games, city builders, and strategy games.
