Unity just announced a new partnership with Mercedes-Benz on Twitter. The Unity engine will power the infotainment domain of the MB.OS operating system. It will roll out to the first vehicles in 2024. Mercedes is using Unity Industrial Collection to create the UI for the in-car cockpit. Unity’s tech will power everything from 3D navigation software to virtual avatars and augmented reality experiences. This will apparently include local weather and traffic data, streaming entertainment, and mixed-reality experiences using the car’s smart glass.
In other news, AppLovin has proposed to combine with Unity for about $17 billion. AppLovin, the mobile monetization platform, announced it has submitted a non-binding proposal to Unity. Offering to “combine” with Unity, it’s more of a proposed acquisition for what would amount to about $17 billion. However, they made clear that Unity would have to terminate its planned acquisition of Ironsource, one of AppLovin’s competitors.
