In July 2021, District 9 and Elysium director Neill Blomkamp revealed he had joined developer Gunzilla Games as its chief visionary officer to work on the upcoming online multiplayer game. That game is called “Off The Grid” – a battle royale with a narrative-driven progression system that’s set in a cyberpunk-inspired world.
Gunzilla Games just announced on Twitter that they have raised a total of $46 million in their latest investment round. This investment round is led by Republic Capital. Other major participants included Griffin Gaming Partners, Animoca Brands, Jump Trading, RW3 Ventures, CoinFund, Shima Capital, Dominance Ventures, GSR, Kucoin Labs, Spartan Investment Group, AlphaCrypto Capital, Blizzard, Digital Strategies, Morningstar Ventures, Gamegroove Capital, NGG and Huobi Group.
The new capital will supposedly allow the studio to build out their platform called GunZ, which aims to “empower players by granting them complete ownership over their in-game possessions”. GunZ will be the foundation for their new game, “Off The Grid”.
