Nreal just announced a raise of $15 million dollars led by Gentle Monster parent firm IICombined for AR glasses. The funding comes on the heels of a $60 million funding led by Alibaba in March of this year.
The new funding will apparently be used to increase investment in R&D, accelerate the company’s global business expansion to new markets this year and strengthen Nreal’s existing partnerships with developers and partners to deliver a wider range of content and experiences to users.
The company has designed the new glasses for specific applications, such as streaming TV shows and playing mobile games. The aim is to create an immersive experience in a form factor indistinguishable from daily worn sunglasses. Nreal has been able to raise more than $260 million to date, including $200 million in the past year. The first glasses debuted in South Korea, Japan, and Europe.
Nreal and IICombined stated in a press release that they are exploring new collaboration opportunities to “push the boundaries of fashion and technology”.
