Tencent announces the purchase of a minority equity stake in Polish gaming studio Gruby Entertainment. Gruby will apparently maintain complete creative and operational autonomy following the investment. Tencent stated it is committed to helping enhance the growth of the company and establish itself in the action game market.
Gruby Entertainment is an independent Polish game development studio founded in 2020 by Grzegorz Michalak, Kamil Misiowiec, Paweł Siech, and Karol Szyszka. The four are programmers with AAA games backgrounds. The studio is currently working on a cyberpunk hybrid FPS rogue-lite called “Deadlink” – launching in early access soon on October 18th, 2022.
According to Gruby CEO Grzegorz Michalak, Tencent’s backing will allow the studio to continue expanding its team and the scope of its projects. He stated in a press release: “Gruby Entertainment studio celebrates its second anniversary this month, and we cannot imagine a better acknowledgment of our work than maintaining a long-term relationship with one of the world’s most significant and technologically oriented companies.”
