Lava Labs was founded in 2019 by serial entrepreneur Kaya Tilev, supported by EA, Riot, and Dice veterans. Trip Hawkins and Alli Ottarsson are advising the company. They recently raised $10 million for its upcoming multiplayer web3 game “AFAR”. The financing round was led by Dialectic, with participation from Merit Circle, Dragonfly, Defiance, Animoca Brands, Razer Computer, Weak Simp Cap, Dapper Labs, Maven11, and angels such as Santiago R Santos, Gabby Dizon, Nick Chong, and more.
AFAR is described as a competitive multiplayer game for PC/browser where 25 players compete against each other in 4-minute battles of 4 rounds. Each round has different challenges and is a mix of obstacle courses and shooting. Players collect points, buffs, and weapons during their race to the finish line: the next spaceship leaving the planet.
Kaya Tilev, CEO and Creative Director of Lava Labs, stated in a press release:
“Our vision is entirely around “fun” and creating an enduring world. We have been inspired by Pixar and Disney throughout our lives and believe we are in a position to create the next generation of dazzling entertainment through our specialized process”.
