The new studio is quite a departure for the developer currently best known for hardcore strategy games like State of Survival and King of Avalon. The new base in Catalonia reflects FunPlus’ overall diversification plans. Puzzle-RPG Call of Antia is the closest FunPlus has come to casual games to date, alongside makeover game Design Island.

Felipe Mata previously spent over seven years at King, where he worked on games like Bubble Witch, Papa Bear, and Diamond Digger Saga before helping create new King games that didn’t get to market. In 2020 he moved to Zeptolab as head of new games, most recently launching Downhill Smash and Overcrowded. He moved to FunPlus in November 2021.

The ​experiences will apparently feature collectibles based on ZeptoLab’s iconic character Om Nom that offer players and fans in The Sandbox digital ownership.

 

The new LAND created by ZeptoLab will enable players to manage the Om Nom Cafe in the city of Nomville and serve customers of the themed cafe in an exciting and challenging arcade management game based on ZeptoLab’s successful intellectual property that has been downloaded billions of times worldwide. 

In addition to Om Nom Cafe, ZeptoLab and The Sandbox will develop digital collectibles, building on the model created around the Nommies from Cut the Rope 2 and the Ancestors from Cut the Rope: Time Travel, as well as accessories and equipment to customize avatars.
