Playable Worlds recently closed a $25 million funding round led by Korean video game publisher, Kakao Games Corp – a subsidiary of mobile messaging firm Kakao. They have allocated some of the funds towards the development of their upcoming cloud-native sandbox massively multiplayer online (MMO) game.
In addition, the company has strategically hired veteran developer Gordon Walton as executive producer and chief product officer. They have also hired Omar Abdelwahed, who will be VP of engineering. Gordon Walton previously worked on several MMO development teams at Konami, Origin, Maxis, Sony Online Entertainment, and BioWare. Omar Abdelwahed has worked on engineering teams with Ubisoft, 2K, East Side Games, and Playstudios.
The team is keeping a lot of the project details under wraps but plans to release teasers and content samples to its audiences soon.
