Cantina Royale will be powered by the Verko Metaverse Experience Framework (MEF) and developed on the Elrond blockchain. The team has stated that they hope to provide web2 players with a new gaming experience, backed by web3 technology. These components will consist of classic web3 NFT characters and other in-game digital assets.
Cantina Royale is led by game designer Dan Bojan and developer Paul Szanto. Dan Bojan previously worked with Angry Mob Games on projects such as Predators, Alien vs. Predator, and Muffin Knight. Paul Szanto is head of engineering for Phenomenon Games and has worked for Gameloft on major gaming projects.
Cantina Royale is described as a tactical shooter built on the award-winning Unity game engine. Dan Bojan recently announced the debut of its web3 play-to-earn metaverse based on Elrond Network’s internet-scale blockchain. Elrond is a new blockchain architecture that introduces two key innovations: a novel adaptive state-sharding mechanism and a secure proof-of-stake algorithm, enabling linear scalability with a fast, efficient and secure consensus mechanism.
Verko is a new Layer 2 Gaming Protocol that introduces the first-ever Metaverse Experience Framework (MEF), allowing developers to easily port new or existing titles onto the blockchain. Their open-source protocol allows NFT collections and the community to define the standards by which NFTs can be used in between gaming projects.
The free-to-play, cross-platform, tactical-action shooter is launching this summer. Moreover, the game will debut its Cantina Royale Token (CRT) on the Maiar Launchpad in July. Cantina Royale recently raised $4.5 million in funding through a round led by Elrond and Mechanism Capital. Other investors included Crypto.com, Morningstar Ventures, Animoca Brands, Skynet eGLD Capital, GBV Capital, Good Games Guild, Chingari, and more.
