Nothing is a London-based company founded by Carl Pei, their aim is to “remove barriers between people and technology to create a seamless digital future”. The tech start-up announced on Twitter that they are creating a web3 Android phone called the Nothing Phone (1). The phone will be made in partnership with Ethereum scaling solution Polygon. The upcoming Nothing Phone (1) will apparently integrate Polygon’s tech for “easier mobile access to dapps, games, payments, and more”.
Initially, the partnership will be an NFT membership club, with Polygon NFTs provided to people who helped crowdfund Nothing’s launch, as well as those who pre-ordered the Nothing Phone (1). The NFT project – dubbed “Nothing Community Dots” – consists of airdropping tokens to Nothing community investors, which unlock perks such as early access to new products and events. Among the first rewards for users will be an invitation to Nothing Phone (1)’s launch in London on July 12th, 2022.
Polygon co-founder Sandeep Nailwal stated: “it is immensely encouraging to see an innovator like Nothing embrace web3 from the get-go, enabling direct access to web3 by working with Polygon.”
The announcement comes less than two weeks after Solana said it is developing its own blockchain phone called “Saga” which will feature a web3 dapp (decentralized app) store, “Solana Pay”, to facilitate on-chain payments and a vault for storing private keys.
