Game studio TenthPlanet announces two new blockchain games: “Mech Angel” and “Alien Mews”. The studio was founded by William Wei Chen – who was the former game development leader for TikTok. William started Mokun Technology and sold it in 2019 to Bytedance, owner of TikTok, for more than $250 million. William apparently used the money from the acquisition to start the new gaming studio TenthPlanet.
TenthPlanet’s aim has been to create a series of new games to take advantage of web3 technology, which uses the blockchain to authenticate unique digital items. Their first title, “Mech Angel” is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game inspired by Genshin Impact. The Unity-based MMORPG will be coming to both mobile and PC platforms. The animated world features young women fighting Japanese-style mech robots. The game has player-vs-environment shooting gameplay and is adapted to the induction of new players. Mech Angel is developing an in-game wallet, an NFT marketplace, virtual assets, and more in the second half of this year. The company has said it’s invested around $6.5 million in the game so far – and have said they plan to launch a PC beta version in the first quarter of 2023.
“Alien Mews” is a digital cat life simulation metaverse. The digital cat breeding world being built with Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 5. It is described as a virtual pet game that allows gamers to try to generate in-game value by breeding them – like CryptoKitties. The company has invested about $2.5 million in the game so far. Their aim is to launch a beta version of Cat Metaverse with several mini-games in the first quarter of 2023.
