Bethesda Game Studios and Obsidian Entertainment have partnered to create Something Wicked Games. The team also noted their recent raise of $13.2 million to make their first triple-A role-playing game: Wyrdsong. The announcement was made at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, and debuted with a trailer.
Industry veteran Jeff Gardiner is the co-founder of Something Wicked Games. The studio is globally dispersed, with creative and leadership talent from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Fallout: New Vegas, Fallout 4, The Outer Worlds, and more.
The first game will be an open-world preternatural RPG called Wyrdsong, which is currently in development. Wyrdsong is described as an occult historical fantasy RPG set in a fictionalized Portugal in the middle ages. Developed on Unreal Engine 5, Wyrdsong will supposedly “immerse players in a dark historical fantasy where every decision has a consequence, both in this world and others yet to be discovered”.
