Azra Games raises another $10 million from a16z crypto. This brings the total raised to $25 million – other investors were NFX, Coinbase Ventures, Play Ventures, and Franklin Templeton. Mark Otero is the CEO and Founder of Azra Games. Mark Otero was previously the General Manager of Capital Games at Electronic Arts (EA), where they were responsible for the studio’s mobile and Facebook free-to-play games.

Azra Games launched its first NFT (non-fungible token) collection, The Hopeful, on Magic Eden. The NFTs are part of the company’s upcoming Legions & Legends sci-fi game. Legions & Legends will be the first game coming from Azra Games. The Hopeful NFTs will serve as PFPs as part of the upcoming Azra Games universe and will supposedly grant holders unique Azra Games community benefits and perks. Holders of The Hopeful NFTs will have access to private Discord channels with the Azra team, early beta access to Azra titles, and other undisclosed benefits.

Yield Guild Games Raised $13.8 Million In Funding Round Led By a16z Crypto and DWF Labs

Yield Guild Games (YGG) has generated US$13.8 million in a token purchase from the YGG treasury led by DWF Labs along with the participation of a16z Crypto, Galaxy Interactive, Sangha Capital Fund, Sanctor Capital, and David Lee to support the guild’s decentralization initiatives. YGG was co-founded by Beryl Chavez Li and Gabby Dizon. Yield Guild Games will appaarently be using the funds to accelerate the development of its soulbound reputation token (SBT). The SBT tokens were test-launched last year but were only offered as rewards for in-game activities.

SBT tokens are permanently linked to a person’s wallet, making them non-transferable. The company plans to place the tokens directly into games. YGG will reward creators with SBT tokens for completing selected tasks or quests. The company is launching a revamped version of its web app in March 2023, with the Soul token expected to play a big role in the guild’s ecosystem platform.

Halliday recently announced the raise of $6 million in a seed round led by a16z crypto to “supercharge ownership in games and the metaverse”. Participating investors included: Hashed, a_capital, SV Angel, Immersion Partners, Sabrina Hahn, and more.

Halliday says it is being built for “players who want a virtual avatar to experience a new game, a distinctive skin to express themselves, or an epic sword to beat the final boss”. The company’s goal is to empower players through ownership of in-game NFTs and to make the transition from web2 to web3 more accessible to everyday gamers.

Halliday integrates directly with games and marketplaces as an alternative payment option at checkout, offering players a seamless way to secure ownership and pay for their NFT over time. Their solution is designed to be as easy and transparent as possible for the user with no surprises or hidden fees.

Cryptoys Have Raised $23 Million From Three Different Companies In Series A Round

Cryptoys just closed a $23 million Series A round led by a16z Crypto with participation from Mattel, Dapper Labs, Draper & Associates, Acrew Capital, CoinFund, Animoca Brands and Sound Ventures. The startup had only just announced a $7.5 million seed round led by a16z Crypto in October of this year.

Mattel is home to some of the world’s most well-known and beloved brands, including Barbie, Fisher-Price, Hot Wheels, American Girl, Thomas & Friends, UNO, and MEGA. It is clear that they hold some of the most iconic IPs in the toy industry. In January of this year, Mattel began its journey into web3 by auctioning three exclusive NFTs for a Barbie collaboration with the luxury fashion brand Balmain. Mattel recently announced on Twitter their upcoming partnership with OnChain Studios and Flow blockchain to create the web3 project Cryptoys. They hope to create a new generation of digital toys that live on the Flow blockchain. They will be fully interactive and evolve over time unlocking new capabilities, play-to-earn games, and metaverse experiences. Cryptoys are planning to launch their original character NFTs this summer – with Mattel releasing its NFTs soon after.
