Clockwork Labs just announced on Twitter that they have raised an impressive $22 million in funds. Andreessen Horowitz led the round with participation from David Baszucki, Roblox founder and CEO, as a private investor. The funds will go towards developing Clockwork Labs’ community sandbox MMORPG, BitCraft, alongside a new unannounced database technology that powers the game.
BitCraft was revealed in September of last year. The game is described as a sandbox MMORPG that encourages many different play styles ranging from farming, hunting, and crafting to city-building and social strategy, rather than emphasizing combat alone. The game incorporates elements of sub-genres such as survival games, sandbox games, role-playing games, city builders, and strategy games.

The new feature lets users create a crypto wallet by logging in with their Google account. The process creates a non-custodial wallet and then splits the wallet’s private key between the user’s device and Fractal’s servers. Fractal has highlighted that this doesn’t mean they hold users’ NFTs or assets.
Fractal states that the new feature is designed to make it easier for players to enter the NFT gaming space. Thus helping to onboard the web2 generation of gamers more seamlessly into the world of web3.
Notably, Fractal currently has more than eighty web3 Solana based game projects listed on its open marketplace. These apparently span over one hundred different NFT collections. Moreover, Fractal recently hosted a $10,000 esports tournament for EV.IO, an NFT-driven, play-to-earn first-person shooter, and it served as a test run for Fractal’s wallet offering.

Andreessen Horowitz invested in Azra Games through its new crypto fund, Games Fund One. The fund has pledged $600 million in funding for blockchain games.
Azra Games was co-founded by Sonny Mayugba and Travis Boudreaux, along with veteran game designer and Electronic Arts (EA) alumnus Mark Otero, who serves as CEO.
The upcoming game “Project Arcanas” will be a play-to-earn fantasy combat arena-styled role-playing-game. Players will have to battle for “wealth and power” within the sci-fi / fantasy universe. Users will also be able to collect non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and build out legions for combat and rewards.
