The multi-year contract will produce NFT content created from the PGA’s archive of videos and player data. The new NFT platform is set to launch sometime in early 2023.

The golf tour joins other major sporting leagues engaging in long-term NFT deals, though it’s the first to do so with Autograph. The National Football League (NFL) and National Basketball Association (NBA) both have long-term NFT marketplace deals with Flow blockchain creator Dapper Labs, while Major League Baseball (MLB) sports an NFT partnership with Candy Digital. The English Premier League in soccer is also expanding into the space.

The skatepark will be built on a 6×6 LAND in The Sandbox and will be dedicated completely to Tony Hawk, featuring themed gaming experiences. 

Autograph is developing a series of NFTs inspired by Hawk’s career – iconic skateboards, equipment, and apparel will be available for purchase. Included in these digital collectibles is Hawk’s skateboard that he used to land the 900 at the X Games in 1999. The Sandbox will then make the Autograph NFTs interoperable in its open metaverse, turning the digital assets into 3D voxels that will unlock in-game functionality.

Tony Hawk has had several web2 games created in inspiration of him over the years. Some of the most popular ones include the “Tony Hawk Pro Skater” series and the 2003 title “Tony Hawk’s Underground”. Additionally, Autograph and Tony Hawk have previously collaborated on an NFT collection that came with the chance of getting a physical skate deck signed by Tony.
