BTS has had a history of cooperating with game companies like Netmarble and Sea. And since 2009, Devsisters has created classic running games, including OvenBreak (2009), Cookie Run: OvenBreak (2016), and Cookie Run: Kingdom (2021), which have apparently reached over 200 million global downloads.
Players can now access “BTS Cookies” which are a new special rarity and are categorized as a brand new “BTS” class. Like any other Cookie in the kingdom, BTS cookies can interact with decor, remove items, move into production buildings, and go on Bear Jelly Balloon expeditions. They can participate in world exploration, friendly battles, Kingdom Arena, and Guild Battles.
Now, MTV has announced that they are creating a virtual space in Roblox as part of this new category of awards for the VMAs (recognizing musical performances in the metaverse). MTV is partnering with Super League Gaming Inc. and Sonar Studios to build the space.
MTV initially pioneered an expedition into the metaverse through the popular Microsoft game Minecraft. Executives from MTV and Paramount Media Network are now attempting to bring the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) to a broader audience on Roblox.
Other Roblox games will feature virtual billboards that will take them to the VMA experience. Users will get a chance to vote for their favorite metaverse performance through MTV logo tokens gleaned from playing three VMA-related games.

The introduction of a new award category for events in the metaverse is another exciting example of how popularity for the space is growing. BTS were nominated for their YouTube ESCAPE2021 performance which featured Minecraft avatars of the BTS members. BLACKPINK has been nominated for the group’s recent collaboration with PUBG Mobile.
According to an MTV spokesperson: “We saw the opportunity to highlight and honor some of the best, most impactful executions of this – and celebrate artists who have found creative ways to use these spaces – which led to the addition of ‘Best Metaverse Performance’ category this year.”
