Netmarble’s Metaverse World Chooses Mysten Labs as Blockchain Partner for Grand Cross: Metaworld

South Korean gaming giant NCSoft invested $15 million in Mysten Labs as part of a previously announced $300 million funding round. The money went toward fueling Mysten Labs’ plan to develop the Sui Layer 1 blockchain to serve as infrastructure for web3 games. Now Netmarble F&C subsidiary Metaverse World announced it is picking Mysten Labs to be the blockchain partner for Grand Cross: Metaworld.

Mysten Labs is a California-based web3 infrastructure company that launched the decentralized blockchain platform Sui in March of this year, 2022. Evan Cheng, currently Mysten Labs CEO, said they are hoping to “build a better blockchain” to improve scalability.

Grand Cross: Metaworld enables thousands of users to hang out together in various cities in an “open world” simultaneously. It has a distinct anime style, both for characters and its settings.

Grand Cross: Metaworld lets players design their own spaces, from actually creating a spot to decorating it. Gamers will apparently be able to use webcams and mobile cameras to customize their individual avatars.

The whole project uses Unreal for 4k graphics and is offering up 4K Anime V-Tubers. Currently it’s heading into a closed beta test scheduled for the first half of 2023, and aiming for a full release by the end of 2023.

Cookie Run: Kingdom To include In-Game Collaboration With BTS

South Korea’s Devsisters just announced their latest “Braver Together” update for the popular game Cookie Run: Kingdom. Now live with an in-game collaboration with the pop icons BTS. The new partnership has apparently already generated over three million pre-registrations worldwide on Google Play.

BTS has had a history of cooperating with game companies like Netmarble and Sea. And since 2009, Devsisters has created classic running games, including OvenBreak (2009), Cookie Run: OvenBreak (2016), and Cookie Run: Kingdom (2021), which have apparently reached over 200 million global downloads.

Players can now access “BTS Cookies” which are a new special rarity and are categorized as a brand new “BTS” class. Like any other Cookie in the kingdom, BTS cookies can interact with decor, remove items, move into production buildings, and go on Bear Jelly Balloon expeditions. They can participate in world exploration, friendly battles, Kingdom Arena, and Guild Battles.

Champions Ascension is the latest blockchain game developed by Jam City, the acclaimed North American subsidiary of Netmarble. They are the makers of well-known mobile gaming titles like Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery and Cookie Jam. Now Jam City is entering the NFT space with its latest web3 offering.

Champions Ascension is the first P2E game to come out of Jam City’s blockchain division. It’s an adventure game set in the fantasy world of “Messina”. Using NFT champions, players battle each other for rewards in the “Colosseum Eternal”.

With its soon-to-be-developed token economy, Champions Ascension plans to use novel mechanics for staking gameplay. Tokens, staking, owner perks, and battle modes are set to release in early 2022. Within a player-driven fantasy world, participants of Champions Ascension can explore, battle, and earn rewards with unique NFT champions, called “Prime Eternals”.

The Champions Ascension white paper was released to the public back in May of this year, 2022.
