Naoyuki Tamate, Symbiogenesis producer at Square Enix, stated:
“Square Enix opted to tap into Polygon’s high transaction speeds, low gas fees, and overall user-friendliness to deliver this unique experience to Web3 fans.”
Urvit Goel, vice president of global games and platform business development at Polygon Labs, responded:
“Our latest collaboration just goes to show that Web3 is decisively getting more and more traction among the world’s largest developers, proving yet again that this innovative stack of technologies and the benefits they bestow have massive potential when it comes to gaming.”
Square Enix stated in a news release that “more of the story develops with each strategic move players make.” The game is an entirely new project for Square Enix and is tentatively planned to launch on Ethereum in the Spring of 2023. They will be expanding the project globally with LGG, one of the largest NFT gaming guilds in Japan, as an official marketing partner.
After successfully launching Final Fantasy and Tomb Raider, Square Enix says it’s shifting some of its focus to web3.
An official press release further details what to expect:
“Symbiogenesis is brand-new entertainment content set in a self-contained world where a wide cast of characters symbiosis, all of which can be collected as digital art; an interactive story and a dedicated community. The art can be used for social media profile pictures (PFP) and as a character in a story that takes place in an alternate world where the player can ’untangle’ a mystery by completing missions that revolve around questions of the monopolization and distribution of resources. With each strategic move players make, more of the story unfolds.”
