London-based independent studio CLUB has closed $3.1 million in its first major round of funding. CLUB is the studio behind CLUB Game, the first free-to-play, play-and-earn football (soccer) game. The seed round was led by Zee Prime Capital and included over 20 other backing groups and angel investors.

CLUB Game players get to take on the role of a Football Club Owner and build a club based on the real-world performances of famous footballers. Club Owners will get to buy and sell players in a real-time live transfer market.

The goal of a Club Owner is to form a “dream football club”, managing players, cosmetics, and infrastructure. Players will have to compete against friends and other Club Owners around the world. Successful players will see their club grow, and they can choose to sell it or its assets off to the highest bidder.
