Meta CEO, Mark Zuckerberg announced last month that Instagram would begin testing non-fungible token (NFT) integrations on their platform. Meta also noted that they had formed a strategic partnership with Polygon Studios. Polygon CEO, Ryan Wyatt confirmed the partnership via a Twitter post. The company is working on three-dimensional, augmented-reality NFTs using its Spark AR software, which will first be compatible with Instagram stories and then later Facebook.
After debuting NFT support on Instagram, Meta has now just launched digital collectibles support on Facebook with select creators. The company has started a slow rollout that allows a select group of creators in the United States to post their digital collectibles on Facebook. With this feature, creators will be able to show off NFTs on their profiles under a new tab. The web3 art will have a “digital collectibles” label just like on Instagram.
Navdeep Singh, a product manager at Meta, shared screenshots of the digital collectibles support. According to the screenshots, users can post NFTs on their timelines, and clicking on them will show details about that digital collectible, such as attributes of the collection and its creators, etc.
On Instagram, NFTs minted on Ethereum and Polygon were supported at launch, with Solana and Flow support apparently in the works. Meta did not say if the same blockchains will be supported on Facebook, but that’s likely the case.
